Keynote Speaker:  Dedria Humphries Barker

Author: Mother of Orphans: The True and Curious Story of Irish Alice, a Colored Man’s Widow.

Short Bio on Dedria A. Humphries Barker:

Dedria is an African American woman writer who addresses mixed-race family issues in the mid-west United States. Her family mosaic is a blend of diverse races, predominantly white and black. A proud mother of three adult children and a devoted wife, Dedria's roots trace back to Detroit. She boasts a bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees in English from Wayne State University, Detroit. As an undergraduate at Wayne, she became a part of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., a Service Sorority founded in 1913. Her journalistic prowess was honed with a certificate from the Maynard Institute of Journalism Education at the University of California, Berkeley. Dedria is also a cherished member of the Squaw Valley Community of Writers and had the privilege to study under MacArthur award recipient, author James McPherson at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop.

This year, the spotlight is on our dedicated efforts in the Greater Lansing Region. We've been tirelessly working to establish a faith-based Reparations model, and we're eager to share our journey with you.

Our event will:
